Licence Check

Before your first lesson, your instructor is required by law to verify your licence details. Here's exactly what you need to do.

Proving Your Entitlement to Drive

Since June 2015, driving licences consist of the photocard only. Endorsements, penalty points and driving bans are no longer recorded on the physical licence — they are only accessible online.

For insurance purposes, your instructor must check your full licence details online before your first driving lesson to confirm the vehicles you're allowed to drive and to check for any penalty points or disqualifications.

Follow These 4 Simple Steps

01

Gather Your Documents

You will need your driving licence, your National Insurance number, and your home postcode as shown on your licence.

02

Visit GOV.UK

Go to gov.uk/view-driving-licence. Enter your driving licence number, National Insurance number and postcode, then click "Share licence information" to generate a one-time code.

03

Send the Code to Us

The code is case sensitive, valid for 21 days, and can only be used once. Send it to DMJ Driver Training along with the last eight digits of your driving licence number.

04

Bring Your Photocard

Please also bring your photocard licence on your first lesson for ID inspection. It is your responsibility to provide proof of a valid licence before the lesson begins.

Visit the official DVLA service to generate your share code:

⚠️ Important

If you fail to provide proof of a valid licence before the commencement of your first driving lesson, your instructor is entitled to refuse to conduct the lesson but may still charge you the full lesson fee. Your instructor will also save a screenshot as evidence of the licence entitlement check.
